Mika's 9th Birthday

On Friday, Mika celebrated her 9th birthday with a Little Women inspired tea party. She invited seven of her girlfriends and one of her older friends, Mrs. Lillyman, to join her in celebrating. Before the party Mika took some video of the preparation.

Mika helped to plan the menu of, blueberry tea, strawberry lemonade, banana cupcakes, mints, mini cheescakes, cucumber sandwiches, fruit, and scones. It was exciting to pull out the tea cups Papa brought home from India and the tea pot Papa brought home from Minsk. Mika has been dying to use the tea pot. It was its first use in 12 years!

To add to the ambiance we borrowed some dress-up dresses from Mrs. Lillyman. The girls dressed-up in dresses before having tea. Mika enjoyed her time with her friends and wished it could have been longer!

Mika's brothers also wanted to participate. They were quite disappointed when they found out that there was not a place set for them around the table. Benji worked really hard to get their attention and was very sad at the end of the party when we didn't have time to do one of the activities we had planned.

UNK String Project Concert

Mika just completed her second semester as a part of the University of Nebraska Kearney String Project. Here are some of the clips of the songs that were played (beware of the bobbing heads!!!):

Mika Wanted Snow

Mika wanted snow, here it is! The storm came in yesterday and will last until Saturday. But, it was warm here with 15 kids under eight from the Braddy, Crocker and Nighswonger clans. As well there were Nessa’s family and friends. Chris and Nessa are hoping the bad weather won’t hinder their wedding Saturday afternoon. I leave for North Platte this morning for the day.

Mika Sewing with Nana

Kearney Update

Malaki had a tonsillectomy this morning in Kearney. Because of his history with seizures and because his oxygen level was low before surgery he will be staying over night with his parents.

Benji and I walked to Cottonmill Park and Mika and Toni joined us for a picnic lunch ... after they had gone bought an Easter dress for Mika. On our walk Benji and I walked part of the way in a dry irrigation canal and found about a dozen golf balls as we passed a golf course. We also encountered the fabled lush forests and beaches of mid-Nebraska.
